Netflix’s Stranger Things S4 premiered by Hungarian Director Nimród Antal

Netflix’s Stranger Things has finally hit our screens with a jam-packed season four. And the best bit? Two episodes of the American science fiction horror drama television series were directed by Hungarian director Nimród Antal who is slowly but surely becoming a household name in Hollywood.

It took three painful years for the Netflix hit show to appear back on our screens. According to DigitalSpy, the long-awaited fourth season of Stranger Things is split into two parts; the first volume dropped on 27 May, while the second will premiere on 1 July. The show revolves around a couple of teenagers from the mid-’80s fighting interdimensional demons and dealing with threats from Upside Down, an alternate dimension that exists in parallel to the human world and is inhabited by humanoid predators. The first volume of the series holds a huge surprise for Hungarian viewers or anyone whose heart holds a special place for Hungary since it has been confirmed that the fifth and sixth episodes were directed by Nimród Antal. The upcoming Hungarian-American film director and screenwriter made his name with Hungarian art-house movie Kontroll (2003), a tale about two rival ticket inspector teams racing along the tracks.

Antal is also known among Hungarian movie-goers for his 2017 production, A viszkis (The Whiskey bandit), a biopic about a boozy Hungarian bank robber and his bold efforts to stay one step ahead of the cops in the time of the post-socialist turmoil. Antal broke into Hollywood with his first American feature film, Vacancy (2007), starring Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson. The horror thriller, which bagged a Scream Award, is set in a run-down motel room where a married couple gets stranded just to discover that they are being taped by an unknown psychopath. Antal’s other works include Metallica Through The Never (2013), a concert movie featuring the iconic heavy metal band, and Predators (2010), an American action-sci-fi with Adrian Brody who is also of Hungarian descent.
